Taper the legs
Tapering the legs may help alleviate leg creep, but then again, it may
not. Details available in the section on Girdle
Comfort.
If you want to taper the legs on your girdle (especially if you add a
cuff), here is the procedure. It appears easy, but it is, in fact, a bit
tricky to do a smooth job. You may have to do this a few times to get
it to your liking.
| While standing and wearing a girdle, pinch the material on your
leg. Get a good grip and pinch hard. Measure or estimate the width
of the pinch. |
|
|
Remove the girdle and lay it flat. Draw the vertical side of a
triangle on the leg where you were pinching it. The base of the
triangle should be equal to or greater than the amount you pinched
in the first step. Using a straight stitch (not zig-zag), sew a
straight line on your mark.
|
|
| Now you have a triangular flap sticking out from the girdle. Fold
it to one side of the leg and pin it in place. Sew the flap onto the
leg of the girdle, being careful not to sew the leg completely together.
This is not a trivial task because it is difficult to get the leg
material lined up on the sewing machine for a straight seam. I recommend
that you do this procedure with the flap on the outside of the girdle.
But, if you wish the flap to be on the inside, perform this entire
procedure with the girdle inside out. The red line in the photo is
a little sloppy, but it will disappear when laundered. |
