Add a Cuff to the Legs

Thanks to Bill E. at the Girdles & More Forum for this suggestion.

Adding a cuff to the legs of the girdle helps reduce leg creep. This addition extends the leg band down to where the quadriceps muscle starts to taper. The cuff must then be modified (tapered) to conform to this muscle, allowing better grip on the leg.

      Procedure:
  1. Starting on the side of one leg, sew a 4" elastic band onto the outside of the girdle, immediately on top of the existing elastic band. The stitch should be along the top edge of the existing leg band. When the ends of the new band converge, let them overlap about 1/2 inch, then sew them together.
  2. Turn the garment inside out and sew the bottom edge of the original leg band onto the new band. Then turn the garment outside in.
  3. Taper the leg. Since the new cuff is placed further down on the leg where it is narrower, you will have to taper it quite a bit. Taking the legs in 3 or 4 inches is not unusual. For tapering instructions, see section Taper the Legs.
  4. The finished leg should look similar to the photo on the right.
  5. On the right, a Rago 6270 with a cuff.
